Sheffield city centre pub, The Bessemer, known for its hugely popular motown and soul party nights, is to re-open this week following a £300,000 makeover.

The pub which was acquired by Stonegate Pub Company from the administrators of previous owner, Bramwell Pub Company in November is one of the first pubs by new parent company to be refurbished. The pub, now temporarily closed for building work, will swing open its doors to showcase a brand new look on Wednesday 26th March, creating ten new jobs in the process.

“The pub is being totally re-designed with new décor and furniture throughout, as well as a bigger dancefloor to accommodate our fantastic party nights”, said General Manager Andrew Baker. “The Bessemer has always been one of Sheffield’s favourite destination pubs but it’s been in need of refurbishment for a while, so with this makeover we couldn’t be more thrilled.”

The first floor mezzanine area which can accommodate up to 100 people, gives a bird’s eye view of the entire pub, making it an ideal private hire area, suitable for parties, receptions or business functions.

Open daily from 10am serving breakfasts, The Bessemer will introduce a brand new menu when it launches featuring traditional pub classics alongside dishes that give a contemporary twist such as Roast Beef Yorkshire Wraps and Curry Lover’s Pie, a combination of the great British pie with an Eastern flavouring. Also new will be a selection of dishes, all under 500 calories for those wanting to enjoy dining out without worrying about the waistline! Food will be a big focus for the Bessemer with a new buffet menu and Sunday lunch choices introduced too.

The pub will open its doors from 5pm on Wednesday 26th March. To celebrate, general manager, Andrew Baker and his team will be offering complimentary prosecco and canapés for locally invited business customers and VIP guests taking a first sneaky peak at the new Bessemer. Throughout the evening customers will be entertained with the best of northern soul and Tamla Motown, all from vinyl.

As a special treat for cask ale enthusiasts, the pub will be hosting a mini beer festival during its opening weekend featuring a selection of nationally and locally sourced ales including ones from local brewers Bradfield, Abbeydale and Sheffield.

“One aspect of the Bessemer that is definitely here to stay will be our Friday and Saturday party nights where we stay open until 2am and featuring non-stop golden oldies from the 50s 60s 70s and 80s”, added Andrew Baker. “We are also launching a new Thursday evening 80s night that’s destined to get the dancefloor rocking and will of course, continue to host our Soul on Sunday event from 3pm until 9pm the last Sunday of each month.”

The Bessemer is the second investment by Stonegate Pub Company in the City this year. In January £220,000 was spent on the refurbishment of The Cavendish on West Street, into a brand new student concept, which resulted in the creation of eight new jobs.
