The people of Eston are gearing up for their annual ‘Party in the Car Park’, this Saturday 6th July. Held at the Stapylton Arms, and now in its 18th year, this instalment promises to build on the event’s legacy once more.
With games, stalls, a BBQ and more, all run by the Stapylton Arms team and local residents, as well as a set from local Rock and Roll covers band The Beer Pigs, the event will be fun-packed afternoon for all. On top of this, the Stapylton Arms’ Party in the Car Park will also be raising money for The Chernobyl Children’s Lifeline, a charity they have supported, amongst others, since the event’s inception. Entrance is £1 and it will run from 2pm – 6pm in the pub’s car park.
Party in the Car Park was originally established in 2001, to make up for the fact that the local community was unable to get tickets for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s own royal car park party. Not wanting their customers and friends to miss out, managers Susan Moore and Shaun King set up their own event, and that has now been running for nearly two decades.
Susan said of the event: “Shaun and I have managed the Staplyton Arms for the last 25 years, and our annual Party in the Car Park is definitely the highlight of the year. The same core group get involved in the organisation every year, and they really put on a show – we’ve got everything a good car park party should have!
“It’s really lovely that such a tight knit community as Eston has the opportunity to get together for a summer celebration every year and it’s a privilege to host it.
“What’s more we’re really proud that we’ve been able to support The Chernobyl Children’s Lifeline for all this time. Every year our donations help bring children over to the UK. There has been a lot attention in the media recently about the disaster all those years ago, but sometimes we can forget that it is still very real and very present for many of the families still suffering and living in the area. We always manage to raise a significant sum of money, but I hope to make an extra push this year.”
The Chernobyl Children’s Lifeline is a charity that supports children and families in Belarus, who have been affected by the Chernobyl disaster. They provide restorative holidays to the UK for children, where they can visit the dentist and have their eyes tested, as well as receive treatment for other healthcare necessities they might not have access to at home.
