Mark Joseph, Team Leader at The Foundry pub in Aberdeen, led a team of 26 ladies to win two tournaments in Scotland, plus more recently, two further titles at the national championships; the British Cheerleading Nationals in Derby.
Alongside captain, Holly Borne, Mark, who is a cheerleading coach at Robert Gordon University (RGU) led the ‘RGU Cobras’ to success; this season the team won four trophies: the Scottish Title at the Scottish University Cheerleading Championships in Dundee, the QMU Edinburgh Cheer Competition, plus the British Champions and the Nation’s Cup at The British Cheerleading Association’s University Championships in Derby.
Since joining the squad three years ago, Mark, has worked hard to create an award-winning team. They train three to four times a week, sometimes twice a day, and compete three times a season. All their hard work has clearly paid off, as the Cobras have had their most successful year ever.
When he is not training, Mark works as a Team Leader at the Foundry where his dad, who is also called Mark, is General Manager. Mark (senior) has been supporting his son in the sport since he was seven years old and the team now holds regular meetings in the pub.
Mark (junior) said: “I am so incredibly proud of the team’s transformation over the last few years. They are incredibly dedicated and so supportive of each other throughout the long hard days of training. I am grateful for my Dad’s support, and that of the whole team at the Foundry; the pub has become our place to plan our training and celebrate our success and we really appreciate the positive encouragement given to us by both staff and customers.”
