Jacqueline Weston, general manager of The Amber Rose in Edinburgh, is calling for donations as she takes on the Arctic Wish Trek this weekend in support of When You Wish Upon A Star.
The strenuous five-day adventure begins with two days of training which will take place in Scotland, before Jacqueline heads to Rovaniemi in Finland where she will spend three days trekking across 70 kilometres into the frosty Arctic Circle. During the trek, Jacqueline and her fellow participants will battle sub-zero temperatures, while pulling their personal equipment in a pulk (a Nordic low-slung sled), and spend the nights sleeping in tents.
The team at The Amber Rose have been fundraising for months for When You Wish Upon A Star Scotland, a charity dedicated to granting the wishes of children with life-threatening illnesses. So far they have raised over £4,300, but they are hoping to beat their £5,000 target by participating in the trek.
Jacqueline said: “I wanted to do the trek because I love a challenge and thought it would be amazing to do this while raising money for an incredible cause. The charity does remarkable work for families who are having to go through the worst times in their lives and I really want to help them continue to make a difference.”
She added: “Hopefully I will avoid frostbite and return with all my fingers or I’ll be pouring pints one-handed back in the pub!”
