The Sailors Arms in Newquay is hosting a special event to raise money for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) this Thursday 20th December.
During the day, the pub will be hosting its annual Winter Wonderland event, with all the family welcome to come by and enjoy the festivities. There will be a range of complimentary drinks and snacks available, including the pub’s home-brewed mulled wine and a hog roast, as well as a bouncy castle for kids.
Later that evening, local fisherman will be singing traditional Cornish ‘Sea Shanties’, which were originally sung to keep the up the spirits of working sailor. Customers will be encouraged to join in the singing and give generously to support the RNLA, a charity that the Sailor’s Arms has supported for many years.
The RNLI relies heavily on volunteers and donations to help keep its services running. Each day they dedicate their time to saving the lives of those who are at risk while at sea, rescuing over 142,200 people since the organisation was founded in 1824.
General Manager of the Sailor’s Arms, Tom Rainey, said: “The RNLI is so important to the people of Newquay and we are proud to support them and the incredible work they do. I’m particularly passionate about the cause as my father was in the Royal Navy, so I grew up with a healthy respect for the ocean. We put this event on every year to help raise money for this vital charity and also to give something back to our lovely locals at Christmas time!”
