The Phoenix on Tamworth’s busy George Street has risen again to the challenge of keeping on top of modern pub traditions after a £130,000 investment that will see the whole town, including the Mayor and Mayoress of Tamworth, celebrating this Friday (1st June).

Bringing cask ales, premium gins, and a welcome nod to the town’s history, a VIP weekend starts this Friday, officially inviting customers and the Mayor of Tamworth Cllr Peter Thurgood and Mayoress Mrs Ann Thurgood, to try the new atmosphere. The Phoenix will also be hosting its first ever live act, motown and soul singer Lee Osbourne, on Saturday 2nd June.

Adding to its repertoire of great market day breakfasts and local beers, the new contemporary décor, flavoured coffee and cake, all day 2-4-1 cocktails and live acts, are set to boost the assets of Tamworth town centre.

Manager for a phenomenal sixteen years, Natalie White has seen The Phoenix through its recent history and is a big fan of the changes: “It sounds like a crazy description but we’re like a posh traditional pub now! We have a lot more gins, premium spirits and Prosecco to boost our huge cask ale following.

“I really love what we’ve done to keep the pub local as well though. We have a warmer colour scheme, tartans and wooden floors, whilst the bric-a-brac is a fabulous reference to Tamworth with images of the castle, Tamworth Town, and even the Robin Reliant, a nod to the first car manufacturer’s base in Tamworth.”

With regular cask ales as well as alternating guests, the Phoenix also has beers from Tamworth brewers to keep CAMRA members happy on Thursdays, which is CAMRA member’s discount night. Fifteen gins with both unusual and legendary botanicals embrace the demand for the revival spirit whilst a range of cocktails is 2-4-1 all day every day.

Additional seating has been put in to cater for the increase in demand for food. Traditional breakfast remains a steal at just £2.99, available from 9.00am on market days, with great value offers including 2-4-£8.49, all day, every day, and daily treats such as Big Burger and a drink Tuesdays from £5.79

Whilst being a champion of sports is left to other venues, there will be an opportunity to book tables to watch the World Cup on the pub’s big screen. A full week of entertainment includes:

  • Monday: Kids eat Free – giving mums and dads a day off from cooking
  • Tuesday: Music Quiz – time to get those thinking caps on!
  • Wednesday: Open Mic Night with great music all night
  • Thursday: CAMRA night with discounts for members
  • Friday: Fizzle out and unwind after a long week with offers on Prosecco
  • Saturday: get the party started with late-night DJ and live acts every month
  • Sunday: chill out zone offers a drink and a newspaper followed by Sunday roast
