Carlisle MP John Stevenson took time out to visit Walkabout and its new first floor bar Felsons on Botchergate, Carlisle last week to see behind the scenes of the £500,000 transformation a week on from its launch.

The brand new concept, taking influence from the 1950’s Hollywood legend Fast Eddie Felson, and the much improved Walkabout bar has been dubbed the ‘Home of Sport and Party’ in Carlisle, bringing with it employment for the area and a boost to the daytime and night time economy.

The local MP was introduced to the front and back of house team, learning of Stonegate’s apprenticeships and careers in management, and how the company has maximised use of previously disused space.

Mr Stevenson commented: “It was great to be shown around the new venue which with its half a million pound investment is a great contribution to the regeneration of Carlisle. Well run pubs and bars are an important part of the community and a welcome boost to local economy creating new jobs and driving footfall, as well as all the other social benefits.”

General Manager Carol-Ann Hammon said: “It was great to meet with John and show how we have transformed not just Walkabout, but the first floor space. The refurbishment has been really well received in the town so it was great to get the additional recognition.”

Area Manager Neil McKie was on hand to give Mr Stevenson the guided tour: “We appreciate John visiting Walkabout and Felsons to see the renovation and to meet the local team.  This investment forms part of our annual £50 Million spend developing our pubs across the country providing enhanced community facilities, creating jobs and careers for people of all ages. Hospitality is an important business sector generating significant income for government and we are pleased that our local MP recognises the importance of British pubs and bars.”
