A massive £50,000 overhaul of Wednesfield’s largest beer garden is complete –and come rain, hail or shine the weather won’t be able to put too much of a dampener on things with new all year round heating.

The Red Lion’s 200-seater garden has got a huge pergola structure, heating, ambient fairy lights, new seating furnished with cushions, and for the kids, an outdoor candy bar with ice-cream, sweets and soft drinks.

“The Red Lion is one of if not the biggest garden in the area and to have £50,000 invested just into that area, it’s going to be a real attraction, especially for families,” said general manager Hannah Page.

“We’re a pub that’s big on community and the traditions of kids in pub gardens goes back a long way. We’re restoring the free and open space with beautiful design and planning to run lots of events out there to bring people together.”

The completed oasis is ready in time to create extra capacity for the busy Aston Villa vs Wolverhampton game on Saturday 10th March. Hannah is gearing up for hosting the first big family weekend at Easter when bouncy castle, face painting, kids mascots, and Easter arts and crafts will fill the renovated area.

There’s even an Easter egg hunt planned but with Easter Sunday falling on Aprils Fools day, there’s bound to be a few tricks up someone’s sleeve!

Big on charity, Hannah is also planning a week of charity activities in the last week of April in aid of MS, a condition Hannah’s mum suffers.

“We’re kitting everything out in blue as part of the MS Society’s ‘Bold and Blue’ campaign, raising not just cash, but awareness for the disease,” added Hannah.

Culminating in a big Sunday for kids (big and small), Sunday 29th April is a date to mark in the diary for pub lovers, families, and MS supporters alike.
