Exactly sixty years after local treasure the Swan pub in Erdington first opened, owners have rewarded loyal customers with a six-figure makeover.

The High Street pub famed for its Brummy sports following and community atmosphere is reassuring locals of ‘same place but rejuvenated’. A new pool table and darts area have also been added, and locals will be delighted to see the return of cask ale on the bar, after a three-year absence.

Greene King IPA and Pedigree now feature alongside an improved lager offering which includes Amstel and San Miguel. There’s more good news for beer lovers too, with reduced prices on selected bottled beers and lagers.

Manager of the Swan, Mandy Morgan, who has been at the pub for the past six years, said: “This is a bit of a thank you really, to recognise that punters who put cash behind the bar deserve something back after years of custom. We’re also taking the opportunity to modernise popular amenities without disturbing the traditional style.”

The pub’s new lighting and brighter décor offers a huge welcome, and with the High Street’s biggest sports following, the local football derby, horse racing, and what’s hoped to be a nation’s success of a World Cup, it’s destined to be a busy time.

Oozing more tradition, there’s a plethora of Great British pub reasons to visit. Monday is quiz day, sticky thirteen and £2.15 on selected pints; Tuesday is poker and bingo afternoon; Wednesday darts and pool night; Thursday great games find the joker and sticky thirteen; Friday takes customers through the music ages; Saturday live sports and sports quiz; and Sunday more live sports and afternoon dominoes.

“We’re a place where friends meet,” added Mandy, “and in our diamond year we’re celebrating that, making us a continuing retreat for our amazing customers.”
