The Akenside Traders, one of Newcastle Quayside’s most visited pubs, is undergoing an impressive £325,000 refurbishment to modernise its pub assets, and add to its much-loved independent character.

Reopening Friday 2nd March with a continued love of sport and an emphasis on fun, some city ‘firsts’ to look forward to include full-sized video wall, retro pub game table Shuffleboard, and bookable booths with TVs (or cocktails)!. There’s on trend craft beer, bottomless Prosecco & stone baked pizza, entertainment and even premium cut Sunday roast.

“We’ve got loads going on to make the Akenside the place to be down the quayside. We’ve always been popular for parties and sport,” said manager Kevan Shutt, “and now we’re adding to that giving customers a reason to visit every day with a great look, amusement, and a fantastic urban-style menu.”

The investment that’s created five new jobs is stripped back to brickwork, tiles, and reclaimed woods giving it an industrialised feel. Abstract lighting includes neons illuminating a craft wall of beer and cider, and kaleidoscopic windows – expect a green Akenside on St Patricks and a (hopefully celebratory) red and white World Cup.

In time for the 3rd March Newcastle vs Liverpool game, the Quayside pub with Sky and BT Sports also has two big screens and seven new HD TVs to add to the un-missable video wall (showing up to four games at once). The 31st March Joshua bout, Cheltenham, Six Nations and World Cup destined to be a good watch here.

Punk IPA, Brewdog, and Hop House are just some of the craft beers whilst six local and national ales will also appear. Parties can look forward to Victorian Punch bowls of gin fixx, and single cocktails just made post work wind down better at 241 Mon-Fri 5-8pm. Fifteen gins are just a part of the spirits emporium where even Tequila is sipped not shot.

Sourdough pizzas, tempting tapas sharers and an enviable line up of desserts make the edgy menu inclusive for the veggie, trendsetter, and crav-able burger lover. The Japanese Wagyu Beef Burger ticks all the foodgasm boxes with oozing molten cheese sauce, wrapped for extra juice and succulence whilst the Sundae Pint of ice-cream, brownie, Churros, flake, marshmallows, caramel and raspberry coulis is just a sample of some amazing treats.

Other weeklong reasons to visit the Akenside include Pizza and bottomless prosecco for 90 minutes at £18; Tuesday 2-FOR-1 Burger; Wednesday Sticky Wings 10 for £3; Thursday – 2- FOR-1 Pizza;

Fizz Friday £14 & Metro radio DJ; Saturday Metro radio DJ ; and Sunday roast, Craft Club 2 for £5 (From 5pm) & free shuffleboard.
