The Feathers Hotel in Merstham reopened yesterday (15th February) after a £200,000 investment added a touch of sparkle to the classic landmark grade II listed building, creating four new local jobs.

Sensitive to its rich and colourful history, owners Stonegate Pub Company have kept up appearances with modern amenities suiting the tastes of today’s pub goers – real ale, exclusive gins, and chef’s specials from Rack of Lamb to Quinoa Chilli, whilst retaining all the original character that has stood the test of time.

Reaching deep into its history, a fitting tribute to the airmen it hosted during World War II, a new refurbished function room aptly renamed the Officer’s Mess. An all-year round garden has also been created with extra guest space, foliage, lighting, heating and a feature fire pit that makes the outdoors comfortable in any weather (well most).

“We’re delighted with the outcome,” said area manager Dave Freeman at the VIP opening on Thursday night where customers enjoyed complimentary ale and fizz alongside canapés of the extended menu and live music from local artists.

“We’ve really been able to improve the interior design to lend the Feathers to socialising, dining or even watching popular terrestrial sport in the function room to make it the classic, warm and inviting village pub that families want to visit.”

A gin range of fourteen botanicals; the best idea yet for wines – a flight of three 100ml glasses hand picked by you, from a range of over thirty quality wines; and national ales like Adnam Broadside, local hero Harveys Best, and local brews make drinks just as interesting as food.

A diverse menu is perfect for small lunches, two meals for £10.49, to loyal favourites guest-ale-battered cod & chips, sausages and mash, and Sunday roasts with free top ups of roasties, Yorkies and gravy.

Pub fare with a chef’s edge includes Chicken & Brie Pie, and 35 day matured Rump or Ribeye topped with portobello mushroom or pepper sauce. There are also more unusual dishes – Pear & Pecorino Pasta, Sea Bream En Papilotte and desserts to make any meal memorable include Sticky Toffee Pudding, and Blackcurrant & Sloe Gin Meringue – or a mix of four mini puds at £4.99 – big enough to share, or not!

As if there was a need for more reasons to visit – over 65’s club on Tuesday offers 25% discount on main meals; Wednesday Burger & Drink from £10 paired with our quiz night; Thursday Games night when you can also enjoy two grills for £15.99; and Friday Fizz is £13.95 a bottle.
