One of Wolverhampton’s landmark pub’s The Goose, which is owned and operated by Stonegate Pub Company, is set to return to its original name when it re-opens following a two day refurbishment this week, with plans afoot to create up to four new jobs.
The Lady Wulfrun on Litchfield Street, formerly known as The Goose in the City will temporarily close whilst builders freshen up the pub and re-install The Goose’s name above the door to the delight of Wolverhampton residents.
The Goose’s General Manager Paul Finn, said of the name change, “It’s been called The Lady Wulfrun for a few years but people still referred to it as The Goose so we decided whilst we were sprucing it up we’d give the people back their preferred name for it. Customer reaction when we told them was delight and to be honest that’s a good enough reason to celebrate.”
The pub re-opens on Wednesday 7th August, with Paul and his team planning a complimentary champagne and canapé reception to celebrate the re-launch on Saturday 10th August from 7pm. The pub’s resident DJ will ensure the party atmosphere until close at 1am.
As well as a new dedicated eating area, kids eat free offer and increased national and local ale choices, the pub will be rocking until 1am every Friday and Saturday with not-to-be-missed two for the price of one cocktail offer from 5pm both days.
Paul and his team are busy putting the final touches together for several charity events over the coming weeks in aid of Wolverhampton’s New Cross Hospital’s linear accelerator machine appeal. The pub is hosting a family fun weekend over the bank holiday which will include a children’s party on Saturday 24th August and a special meet and greet from members of the Wolverhampton Wanderers team.
The following weekend Paul and Duty Manager David Clark will attempt the longest and scariest zip wire in Europe. 500ft off the ground and up to 100 miles an hour, the zip wire at Snowdon is not for the faint-hearted. “At the moment both Dave and I are excited about the challenge”, commented Paul, “but I suspect as the time draws nearer our confidence might wane. But all the money we raise will go towards to new machinery for the hospital so there’s no question of pulling out! We’re absolutely up for the challenge.”
