For most customers visiting their local pub, the only chicken they are likely to see is on their plate. Not so at Stowmarket’s favourite High Street pub, Duke’s Head though. Here the manager Jacqueline Smith and her team have been busy raising three chicks in the pub’s garden much to the delight of the customers.

Undecided on what to call them Jacqueline invited customers to post suggestions online with the winners of the three favourite names each receiving a meal for four at the pub.

The winning names have been announced as Tikka, Kiev and Kebab. The chicks, now 7 weeks old are enjoying the attention and are set to make a starring role in the summer fun-day weekend planned at the pub in aid of Help for Heroes on 7th and 8th July.

The big weekend of fun, from 1pm to 7pm on both Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th July is already creating a buzz amongst residents in the town. Throughout the Saturday the pub will host games and activities to keep every age group entertained. There will be a bouncy castle and face painting for the children whilst the adults can enjoy live music and a rolling barbeque throughout the day. Local Army personnel are expected to visit to meet and chat with the youngsters too.

The following day, the pub will host a car boot sale with stalls both inside the pub and outside in the front and back garden. To reserve a slot for a stall, priced at £5 with all fees donated to help for Heroes, visit www.dukesheadstowmarket.co.uk

“The chicks have really captured the hearts of regulars at the pub and there has been quite a buzz of excitement over the naming of them. In the end the chosen names were clear winners and the chicks seem quite happy too!”, said Rosie Cox, Team Leader at the Dukes Head. “They will be on show during our Help for Heroes fundraising weekend so that the children can give them a cuddle.”
