Slug and Lettuce has won a national award for its menu, confirming what its customers already know – its dishes are simply the best on the high street!
The 71-strong bar group, which is owned and operated by Stonegate Pub Company, scooped the highly coveted Menu Masters Award for City and Bar Dining category which was judged by its industry peers at the prestigious Menu Innovation and Development Awards earlier this month. The trophy was presented to Simon Blunt, Slug and Lettuce’s Food Development Manager for the brand’s outstanding menu and in recognition of its innovation and industry-leading kitchen team development.
Slug and Lettuce, which is set to launch its latest menu on Wednesday 27th March, was praised for its versatile menu which offers customers plenty of choice to suit their dining occasion. From brunch options, sharing dishes, sandwiches and wraps to classic main course choices, salads, curries, burgers and pasta dishes, the bar group gives customers the flexibility and a wide range of options, whatever their desire.
“We’re delighted to pick up this award”, said Mary Willcock, Slug and Lettuce’s Managing Director, “and it confirms what our customers are already telling us… they love our menu. Our development chefs work closely with suppliers to source the perfect ingredients for our dishes and also regularly consult customer focus groups to ensure our menu offers the choice and the quality of dishes our customers know to expect from Slug and Lettuce,” she added.
Reflecting customer desire to have healthy options when dining out, the new menu incorporates an ‘Under 500’ calorie section which includes a choice of six dishes – two Cajun salads, served with chicken or grilled yellow-fin tuna, an aubergine and tomato bake, chicken and pepper skewers and an 8oz Rump Steak all served with the house salad and low calorie French dressing. A delicious vegetarian sweet potato salad, comprising roasted sweet potato wedges on a house salad, with chickpeas, couscous and a tomato and mint dressing, makes up the sixth choice.
Elsewhere on the menu, a new chicken platter is set to be introduced along with a chicken tostada flatbread, an improved 7oz burger recipe and chicken wings. Also making an appearance is a BBQ roast half chicken with spicy BBQ sauce. Customers can choose this, on its own, or with BBQ ribs for a tasty combination. Curry lovers will be delighted to see a new dish on the menu to try, Beef Masaman. This, along with all the other curry favourites, is available all day every Tuesday, two for the price of one, via the Slug and Lettuce Tikka Tuesday promotion. Two new tempting desserts have also been added, white chocolate and raspberry cheesecake with profiterole topping and a simply divine triple chocolate tart, both available two for the price of one all day every day.
“We spend a great deal of time trying new ideas, sourcing quality ingredients and listening to our customers, to ensure our menu is just what our diners want”, said Perry Huntley, Stonegate Pub Company Head of Food Development. “We are excited to introduce some fantastic new dishes reflecting latest food trends, to the menu. Our new ‘under 500 calorie’ section gives the customer the confidence to enjoy a meal out and enjoy really tasty dishes, even when they are watching their calorie intake.”
