Portsmouth’s newest night time venue, Popworld on King Henry I Street, will be celebrating their opening week by hosting a disco of a different kind in order to raise money for the Portsmouth branch of the Samaritans.

On Thursday 7th February, in conjunction with Red Bull, Popworld will be hosting a silent disco from 10pm. Upon entry, customers will be handed a set of headphones where they can listen to music played by two DJs. Using special buttons on their headphones, customers can switch the music around in their headphones, depending on which DJ they like and then dance the night away!

In order to raise money for the Samaritans, the team at Popworld have also organised a charity raffle with tickets selling at just £1. Prizes include a Jack Daniels electric guitar and a game of golf for four people at the Belfry in Birmingham.

The event has been organised by the club’s assistant manager, Jennifer Ford who volunteers at the Samaritans.

Jennifer said: “I’ve been to a silent disco before and it was really good fun. It does look a little strange when you first walk into the bar and people are dancing but there’s no music playing, but people quickly get into the swing of things. They hosted a silent disco once at a station in London and that looked like great fun and we’re sure it will be the same here at Popworld.

“I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to launch and host a great night for our customers and, at the same time, raise money for a worthy cause. I’ve been volunteering at the Samaritans for about a year now and can see firsthand how the service provides assistance and support to those in times of need.

“We’d like to raise at least £200 for the charity so would like to invite customers to come along and take part in the silent disco. We will have only been open for six days, so it is the perfect chance to see the new look night club, enjoy a drink and a dance with friends and raise money for charity, all in one night.”
