The residents and visitors of York are in for a special treat tomorrow (Friday 19th October) when one of the original 13 Bluesmobiles made for the movie, the Blues Brothers, drives into the city.
The 1974 Dodge Monaco will be visiting York’s landmarks, tourist spots and driving through the city to raise awareness that the team at Flares on Tanner Row are playing host to the Blueprint Blues Brothers that evening.
Samantha Storr, Deputy Manager at Flares said: “The music from Blues Brothers is just fantastic- you’ve got Everybody Needs Somebody To Love, Gimmie Some Lovin’ and Think. These songs get everyone singing and dancing along.
It’s the first time we’ve hosted the Blueprint Blues Brothers but I’ve seen videos of them performing and they really interact with the crowd, dancing amongst them and making sure that everyone gets involved. It’s really hard not to get swept up in it all, so I’m confident that it will be a night to remember.” Doors open at 8pm and a £3 entry fee will be in place from 10pm onwards.
The team at Flares are already busy planning another event; a fundraiser for seven-year old Jamie Inglis who recently returned from Germany after two months of cancer treatment.
Samantha continues: “We heard about Jamie’s situation on the radio a few weeks back and wanted to do something to help him and his family by raising money for the Keep Jamie Smiling appeal.
“We’re going to be hosting a fundraising evening on Thursday 29th November called Jamie’s real deals where we’ll auction off items to raise money. We hope to raise over £1000 and already we’ve got some brilliant auction items which have been kindly donated by local businesses and companies. We would like to encourage everyone to put the date in the diary and come down and support Jamie and his family in whatever way they can. The family have to raise £250,000 so we hope that we can contribute significantly to that target.
“We contacted Jamie’s family via their Facebook page and they were delighted that we wanted to help them. Although the event is over a month away, we’ve already started selling Neuroblastoma Children’s Cancer Alliance wristbands and Children with Cancer ribbons at £2 so please pop in and buy a ribbon or wristband. We want to do all we can to make a positive difference to Jamie’s life.”
