Customers, staff and friends from ‘The Yorkshire Grey’ pub in Doncaster are to attempt a 12 hour cycle challenge for Doncaster charity Firefly Club after one of its bar supervisors was diagnosed with colorectal cancer and was helped by the organisation.
No doubt inspired by Bradley Wiggens epic win last weekend, approximately twenty of bar supervisor Adam Hartshorn’s friends and colleagues will cycle non-stop on a static bike in The Yorkshire Grey from 10am until 10pm on Saturday 4 August. They aim to raise over £500 for Firefly Club a cancer awareness and support foundation, which provided much needed daily transport for Adam to and from hospital during treatment.
The challenge involves 15 minute cycling slots for each of the volunteers on rotation, kicked off by Adam who will cycle the first few minutes.
Emma Hartshorn, Adam’s wife and deputy manager at The Yorkshire Grey said, “When Adam was diagnosed in April it hit us like a ton of bricks. We have two very young children and it was just such as shock. The last few months have been tough but the support we’ve had from Rhona, our kitchen manager, from our ‘Yorkshire Grey family’ and from Firefly has been incredible. Firefly Club gave us really practical support picking Adam up from home daily for five weeks and taking him to and from hospital for treatment.
“Adam’s doing really well and is determined that his story should be a springboard to help raise funds for Firefly Club. The more people who wish to take part in the cycle challenge the better, whether that be by raising sponsorship for their cycle slot or giving a donation to take to the bike for a few minutes. Do come along and join us, it all makes a difference.”
