A pub in Leicester, Yates’s, on Belvoir Street has raised £700 for the East Anglian Regiment. The pub hosted a charity quiz on behalf of the Citywatch Leicester and with special guest for the evening, Lord Mayor Robert Wann.
The event on Tuesday 6 March was attended by 200 businessmen and women from across Leicester as well as Leicestershire Police. Over 20 prizes were kindly donated by Leicester businesses including a leather reclining chair, swarovski crystal pens, a watch worth £120 and various shopping vouchers. Twenty four teams participated in the quiz with the eventual winners being Fenwicks Cookshop going by the name of Basement Brains.
Anna Winterton, manager of Yates’s and organiser of the event said, “There was an amazing atmosphere during the evening. Despite the current economic pressure on people and businesses the generosity and sense of community spirit was most definitely in full flow. All in all it was a week to remember for Leicester with the Royal Jubilee visit too. We are delighted to do our bit to support our local Army regiment, Royal Anglian Regiment, and hope that this money will go a little way to supporting their efforts.”
Mark Williamson of Citywatch Leicester said, “We hold a couple of quizzes at Yates’s during the year that are very successful. We alternate the charities and have collected for Rainbows, a local police man suffering from a brain tumour, a local School as well as other Lord Mayors appeals. It’s a great night and fabulous to see so many local businesses pulling together to raise money for such worthwhile causes. “
