The William Bourne, on Moor Lane in Chessington, is raising money for the Royal Marsden Hospital throughout December.

The pub will be hosting a quiz night every Thursday and Bingo every Sunday to raise money, as well as encouraging customers to donate their unwanted toys. The pub will then wrap them as presents and deliver them to the Children and Young People’s Unit at the hospital before Christmas.

Decorations will be up in full force for the fundraising festive period and the pub has ordered 3,000 Christmas hats ensure everyone who comes into the pub gets their fair share of Christmas spirit. There will also be a raffle running to help bolster funds, with prizes generously donated by local businesses, as well as some quick win games, like ‘Find the Joker’, where customers can pick a card for the chance to win a prize.

Together with its research partner, the Institute of Cancer Research (ICR), The Royal Marsden Hospital ranks in the top five cancer institutes, according to its impact, in the world, treating more than 59,000 patients a year. Martina Dordikovs, General Manager of the William Bourne, and her team are hoping to surpass their total from the pub’s Easter fundraising initiative, when they raised £1,500 for the hospital and its work towards beating cancer.

Martina said: “We are very lucky to have such a world-renowned cancer hospital in our area. It does incredibly important research into a disease that affects so many people around us. I think it must be particularly difficult to be treated in hospital around Christmas time, so we hope to do our bit and extend some of the Christmas cheer we’ll all be feeling in droves, to those in the Children’s and Young People’s Unit at the Royal Marsden.

“We’ll be collecting toys and donations throughout the month, so I hope our generous customers will come along, have a good time and do their bit for our cause. After all it is the season of giving!”
