The Churchillian pub, on Portsdown Hill Road in Cosham, has reopened its beer garden this week, following a six-figure investment, under the experienced reigns of General Manager, Hugo Miguel de Matos Teixeira.

A classic inn on the top of a hill with unrivalled sea views, The Churchillian’s garden has been transformed into an oasis for customers to enjoy a drink or a bite to eat.

The renovation of the garden includes the build of a brand-new outside bar. This huge bar has the capacity to serve a full drinks range including six draught beer taps for both cask and keg beers, which also include rotating local brews. This bar also serves a delicious collection of cocktails, spirits, bottled beers, and wines. The outside area has been revamped with new furniture that can seat up to 280 people and is decorated with new plants and shrubbery to complement the incredible views. The new food menu boasts traditional pub favourites, from fish and chips and burgers to steaks from the grill and generous sharing platters.

Hugo oversees an experienced and brilliant team, the majority of who have returned to the pub following lockdown. The investment in the pub has also resulted in the creation of 15 new jobs to maintain customer service excellence that customers have come to expect from the Churchillian.

Hugo Miguel de Matos Teixeira, General Manager of The Churchillian, said: “I am so excited by this transformation and am delighted to finally welcome customers into our brand-new garden this week. The Churchillian is a fantastic pub in a great location and this refurbishment has injected a new lease of life into this venue.”

The transformation of the pub is happening in two phases, with the second phase, involving the interior of the pub, now underway. An additional six-figure investment will see the entire interior of the pub completely overhauled, with a new aesthetic breathing fresh life into the pub. New furniture, floors, and new bric-a-brac will create a warm and cosy vibe for customers to enjoy within the pub. The renovation extends to the function room on the first floor, making the most of the pub’s hill-top elevation and coastal views. The newly redecorated function room will embody ‘chic decadence’ and will be the perfect location for a reception or private party, when COVID restrictions allow.

Hugo continued: “Our priority remains the safety and wellbeing of our team and customers, whilst ensuring everyone is able to enjoy and make the most out of their long-awaited visit to our pub.”

The pub has ensured it complies with the new COVID-19 Secure Workplace Guidance for Pubs and Restaurants, introducing measures to protect staff and customers and ensuring the smooth running of operations.

Understanding the importance of clarity for customers, The Churchillian has installed external signage clearly setting out the safety measures in place. Customers will be greeted with a warm welcome from both managers and teams, and robust COVID-secure measures, including clear social distancing measures, enhanced cleaning regimes and adhering to NHS Test and Trace guidelines; full table service with contactless payments available, customers can also order food and drinks via an app, will be in operation.

Tables can be booked on The Churchillian’s website (http://www.classicinns.co.uk/the-churchillian-cosham/party-booking)  or by calling the Stonegate central booking team on 03300 949251.
