The Prince of Wales and The George, both in Wombwell, have teamed up and are fundraising for a local 8-year-old boy, who suffers from Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia. To date, they have raised over £3,000 to go towards the boy’s treatment and care.

Both pubs have been hosting various events and initiatives, including sponsored bike rides as well as sponsored ‘shaves’, to raise money and awareness for this local boy’s treatment.

Sharon Lang, Operator of The Prince of Wales said: “It is humbling to see how our community has come together and support this cause so close to our hearts. I am incredibly proud of the collective efforts from the teams at both pubs in what we have fundraised so far. In times like this, we have shown once more, how important a community is and how acts of kindness can make a big difference.”

This fundraising activity will culminate in an event on Sunday 13 March, 5pm at The George pub, for a final push to raise vital funds. The pub will be hosting a sponsored full-body wax of three customers and a raffle, with prizes including a brand new 50inch TV and a signed Darts T-Shirt. All money will then be added to the current total.

Dawn Spriggs, Operator of The George said: “Our local community is so important to us, and we try to do anything we can to help and support local causes. We have lots of fun activities lined up for our fundraising push on Sunday 13 March, I cannot wait for our customers to get involved with them all.”

The Wombwell-based 8-year-old boy was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia in November 2021 and since then he had numerous blood transactions and he is having ongoing chemotherapy treatment.

In a separate campaign, The George has also recently raised over £2,800 for Only Pavement’s Away’s Winter Warmth campaign.
