The Stapylton Arms, Middlesbrough has raised over £2000 for the James Cook University Hospital, to help fund a refurbishment to the hospital’s waiting room, in the memory of a local woman, Fiona, who lost her battle with cancer and passed last year.
The pub organised a ticketed Charity Horse Race Night, where proceeds went towards this cause. The hosts of this charity race were Fiona’s niece, Ella and Matthew. Fiona’s family have been fundraising for the hospital for some time and inspired the pub to arrange this event.
Susan Moore, General Manager of The Stapylton Arms, said: “I am humbled to see how our locals got behind and supported this cause. We wanted to do our bit in making the hospital’s waiting room a bit more comfortable, for those who might be going through a difficult time.”
In addition to the Charity Race Night, the pub also arranged a number of other fundraising activities including a ‘Dress to Impress’ contest, where the most glamorously dressed won a bottle of prosecco and a crate of lager. There was also a raffle, with amazing prizes, including a £20 voucher to dine in local restaurant ‘Alessis’, a voucher for takeaway from Mr Chips and a free MOT from Mike’s Auto Repairs.
The pub raised £1180 from the charity race night and another £1000 from a group of locals, who made a generous donation to the cause.
