The popular Beacon pub in Eston is open again after a £195,000 makeover offering locals all the best of classic British pub hospitality and a host of sporting action.

The latest works to the pub, which is a busy hub of the community, mean customers can now watch live Sky Sports and BT Sports in the comfort of a great local pub, as well as play darts and pool games. There has been a full makeover inside and out to guarantee customers make the most of their visits with quality drinks, entertainment and service in comfortable surroundings.

The pub on Churchill Road is part of the award-winning Craft Union Pub Company, who were named the Best Community Operator at the 2022 Publican Awards. It invested over £195,000 in The Beacon during its recent refurbishment so the Eston community can enjoy this friendly neighbourhood pub for years to come.

It’s ideally located for local residents while appealing to the wider community thanks to a good-sized car park. There is lovely outside seating at the front and side with a new covered area and the conservatory has been fully refurbished. Its enviable location means customers can look out over views of the Eston Hills. Inside, the two-room bar cleverly offers a sports area and a lounge area so sports, entertainment or activities can take place simultaneously. There are two new darts throws with surround and a pool table. Warmer and brighter décor, additional carpeting and soft furnishings have added extra comfort throughout.

Welcoming guests to The Beacon is new manager, Pam Keenan. She brings a wealth of experience to the all-important role having worked in hospitality for 30 years, most recently at the Leeds Hotel in Stockport.

Delighted with the pub’s refreshed look she said: “I’m excited to be here at The Beacon as it welcomes customers back following the refurb. It looks amazing inside and out. Pubs are the original and the best meeting place and that is certainly true here. I’m enjoying getting to know the people of Eston and beyond. There is such a great community atmosphere and now it has all the added benefits of top sports, quality drinks and friendly service so it’s a brilliant place to sit back and relax. It’s a warm and welcoming pub with plenty of comfy seating and lots going on whether it’s TV sports, pool or darts, or live entertainment. Everyone is loving the new look and meeting up with friends, family and neighbours. It has kept all its character while offering today’s added comforts and leading technology!  We are open every day and offer great value, great service and great fun. Come in and see for yourself.”

The bar menu has been extended and features local, national and international beers, wines, spirits and soft drinks so there is something for everyone. Pam added: “This is the place to come for a refreshing pint, glass of wine, gin and tonic or whatever takes your fancy. There is a brilliant drinks selection without eye watering prices and some good value offers available throughout the year.”

The Beacon has a bright future for the Eston community. It’s thought the pub’s name is linked to the Iron Age fort, the Eston Nab, which was crowned with a beacon or lighthouse, possibly as early as the Saxon period. Later it was one of a ring of beacons to warn of any advancing enemy along the River Tees.
