The iconic Unicorn pub in Manchester is open again after a £218,000 makeover offering locals all the best of classic British pub hospitality and unrivalled TV sports viewing.

Customers to the striking Grade II listed, three-storey pub on Church Street can enjoy many of its original fixtures and fittings including the central island bar, dating back to 1924.  The building itself has eye-catching brick, stone and glazed work giving it a wonderful street presence.

There has been a sympathetic refurbishment to enhance the historical character of the pub while adding some modern-day comforts. There is now full BT Sport and Sky Sports viewing throughout.

The pub is part of the award-winning Craft Union Pub Company, who were named the Best Community Operator at the 2022 Publican Awards. It invested £218,000 in The Unicorn during its recent refurbishment so the Manchester community can enjoy this friendly neighbourhood pub for years to come.

Regulars will recognise a familiar face at the bar, Donna McNeill who is delighted to be Operator of the pub, working with Craft Union Pub Company. She has worked on and off at the pub in different roles for eight years.

The Unicorn is very dear to Donna. She explained: “I used to visit the pub as a customer. It has a warm, friendly vibe as a local pub even though it’s in the city centre. This is the only pub I said I would run, believe it or not, and here I am today, running it! It’s exciting and I’m looking forward to it.”

Customers are served from the central island bar and there are several snug seating areas. The traditional look and feel is retained while some modern-day comforts have been added. Clever use of zoning, HD TV screens and audio mean entertainment, sports or multiple activities can take place simultaneously.

Donna added: “This is a beautiful pub, it really is a bit magical, just like the unicorn itself! It has an important past and a wonderful future as people love it here. This is what a great British pub is all about. It is the perfect place for a drink and a catch up or to watch a match.

“Everyone is loving the new look and meeting up with friends, family, colleagues and neighbours. It has kept all its character while offering today’s added comforts and leading HD technology!  We are open every day and offer great value, great service and great fun. Come in and see for yourself.”

The bar menu has been extended and features local, national and international beers, wines, spirits and soft drinks so there is something for everyone. Donna said: “This is the place to come for a refreshing pint, glass of wine, gin and tonic or whatever takes your fancy. There is a brilliant drinks selection without eye watering prices and some good value offers available throughout the year.”
