The popular Pen Y Bryn in Llanrwst is open again following a £169,000 refurbishment and serving great British pub hospitality just as it has done for hundreds of years.

The landmark 17th century coaching inn on Ancaster Square is a much-loved part of the town having served locals for so long. It is quite unique as the building has been a pub for its entire recorded history.

Doors have reopened following a complete makeover inside and out to give locals a friendly community pub to enjoy seven days a week.

Customers can now watch Sky Sports and BT Sport in HD inside and out in the spacious beer garden. High-quality viewing and audio bring match days to life at the Pen Y Bryn; just in time for the new football season to kick off from 5 August, and looking further ahead to enjoying Wales play in the World Cup in December. A new darts surround and throw and new pool table add to the sporting entertainment on offer.

There are new faces at the bar, Nannon Davies and Luke Taylor to welcome guests. They have moved to Llanrwst from Llandudno Junction along with their rescue dog Mama and bring over a decade of experience in pubs and hospitality.

Nannon said: “This is an exciting time for us and for the Pen Y Bryn. It’s great to be here for the next chapter in this amazing pub‘s long history. The future is really bright for this pub and it’s great to meet the locals now we are open. It has lots of character and a warm and welcoming feel. It is a real gem.”

The pub is part of the award-winning Craft Union Pub Company, who were named the Best Community Operator at the 2022 Publican Awards. It invested £169,000 in the Pen Y Bryn during its recent refurbishment so the Llanrwst community can enjoy this friendly neighbourhood pub for years to come.

The pub has an enviable location on Ancaster Square and is aptly named the Pen Y Bryn which means ‘Top of the hill’. In the past, the arched entrance to the left of the building was the access used by cart horses pulling drays laden with beer. Today, more modern modes of delivery are used!

This latest refurbishment has retained all the charm and character of the long-serving pub and added some modern-day comforts.

Nannon added: “This is a pub for everyone, for every day of the week and for all occasions. It has a great past and a wonderful future ahead. The latest tech means we can show TV sports but at the same time we have the traditional pub games so customers can play pool or darts here too. Inside and out has been refreshed and all the new seating makes it even more comfortable. A new covered area outside means it can be used all-year round, regardless of the weather. All are welcome and the pub is dog-friendly too.

“Come in and see for yourselves! Sit back and enjoy a drink and a catch up with friends, family and neighbours. We are here for all the community, serving good quality, good value drinks with great service.”

The drinks menu has been extended with a wide choice of local, national and internationally renowned beers, wines, ciders and spirits, a choice of cocktails, plus soft drinks and low and no alcohol drinks. Customers don’t even have to leave their seat to order their favourite tipples as they can place their order via the Craft Union app and their drinks will be brought to them.
