The Horse and Jockey, Rawmarsh has been welcoming members of the local community into the pub since reopening its doors, showing off its brand-new look. Recent visitors to the pub include local MP, John Healey and Rotherham Mayor, Tajamal Khan.

The pub was first paid a visit by John Healey MP, who visited the pub to see the changes made during its £215,000 investment a few months ago by Stonegate Group and to meet with Operator Simon Barber and the pub team. During his visit, Simon talked to John about the investment and everything that was done. Simon said: “It was great to welcome Mr Healey to the pub to see it in all its glory after the investment. He was very interested in the level of the investment and the difference we had made to the pub. He was also thrilled to see the pub so busy, and to see the community gathering in our welcoming space.”

John Healey MP said: “The Horse and Jockey is a great local community pub and I’m pleased to see the investment and alterations that have taken place. The changes have made such a difference to the space inside the building.

“It was good to speak with Simon and the team and hear about their careers and roles at the pub. Something that stood out to me was the charity and community work that goes on at the Horse and Jockey and the team’s desire to serve their local area.

“I wish Simon all the best for the future of the pub and look forward to my next visit.”

The pub’s recent investment saw changes made to both inside and outside with all its space being utilised with new furniture and fittings. The Rotherham Mayor was also able to see these changes when he visited the pub recently. On his visit, he was able to have a full tour of the warm, modernised Horse and Jockey as well as speak to Simon about the level of investment, and the pub’s performance in the local community.

Simon added: “It was a privilege to have the Mayor of Rotherham come and visit us at the pub and see our amazing local business. It was great telling him about our community involvement and what we offer to bring those in Rawmarsh together such as our games nights, live sports and live music. We are a community driven pub and do our very best to give support and provide a friendly space for those in the local area.”

Rotherham Mayor, Tajamal Khan said: “The Horse and Jockey is a great part of the Rotherham community, and I was delighted to hear about all that Simon and the team do to make a space for everyone to come and relax and have fun with friends, family and others in the area. I think the pub’s investment has really enhanced the customer experience and everyone at The Horse and Jockey is doing a great job at maintaining great standards.”

As well as screening the World Cup fixtures on their nine TVs, The Horse and Jockey are running a Christmas toy appeal. Alongside a local tattoo shop and radio station, the pub will be helping to collect toys for children at Sheffield Children’s Hospital, Leeds Children’s Hospital and Teenage Cancer Trust. If you would like to find out more information or make a donation, pop into the pub and speak to Simon or a member of the team.
