Stockton on Tees’ much-loved George and Dragon pub has just received £233,000 in new investment, enabling its new operators to bring the best in hospitality to the local area. Residents of Norton, Stockton-on-Tees are invited to visit the pub on High Street, Norton, when it reopens its doors on Monday 30 January.

Now part of the award-winning Craft Union Pub company, which holds the title for the Best Community Pub Operator, the George and Dragon has undergone improvements that will retain its character while offering a modern look and feel.

A true home away from home, the George and Dragon is operated by Jeff and Ann-Marie Tate who, together, have a combined experience of over twenty years in the hospitality industry and a mutual passion for running a pub that serves the people of Norton and its surrounding area. Ann-Marie also comes direct from another Craft Union pub, The Beacon in Middlesborough, and brings in-depth knowledge of how to utilise the company’s benefits to regulars and visitors.

The couple have a particular enthusiasm for sport and bring their expertise in this area to their new home, having both lead Darts teams in their former locals.

Anne-Marie said: “Jeff and I began working in hospitality over ten years ago and we both have a passion for leading darts teams. We can’t wait to offer darts, pool, dominoes, and a friendly atmosphere to local residents.”

From quiz nights to providing a hub for watching sports in high definition, the George and Dragon is the place to catch all the sporting action with TV screens around the pub showing both Sky and BT Sports.

With the addition of an excellent Juke-Box selection and regular DJ nights, the pub’s Craft Union transformation promises to uphold a lively atmosphere with a jam-packed events schedule each week.

Whether looking for a spot to relax, play a round of darts with friends or enjoy a few drinks, the George and Dragon is a warm and modern social venue that is developing from strength to strength.

Jeff said: “We know the George and Dragon has always been a community pub and we like that. We know people in the area and its community that brought us into the business. We’ve already discussed the possibility of teams using the pub for meetings and have connected with a local Football Club. I’m so excited to engage with our community in this way. Watch this space!”
