Local Hyde community pub, The Crown and Cushion, has reopened in grand style following a £250k makeover from award-winning Craft Union Pub Company.

The much-loved local in the Tameside area of Greater Manchester, has been revamped inside and out, providing a vibrant social hub to regulars and visitors.

Operator, Dawn Whittaker is elated about the improvements and has a host of plans to engage locals with activities and entertainment.

Dawn said: “We’re planning to involve as many people as possible in life here at the Crown and Cushion, starting with sport available on screens every day, Bingo afternoons on Monday and Live DJs on Friday and Saturday. We’re even giving out free cake on Thursdays in the garden! There should be something for everyone.”

But the improvements don’t stop at a fantastic paint job and lively activities. There is a shiny new bar, brand new darts-board and photographs showing Hyde’s history displayed throughout a light green and cream interior.

Live music will feature in the pub’s Rhythm of activities and a very warm welcome will be had by all at ‘Tombola Tuesday,’ The ‘Wednesday Club ‘and ‘Golden Oldies’ on Thursdays. Sports socials will feature every Saturday and Sunday and fun supporting the local darts league can be shared by all.

Outside, the Beer Garden boasts new bench-table sets and a TV screen enabling sports-fans to drink in sunshine while watching the game. Added to this is a wider drinks selection catering to all tastes.

Connecting with the community will also extend to charity work and Dawn is already making plans to support local Willow Wood Hospice both with traditional collections at the bar and a special fundraising day.

Dawn continued: “Everyone who’s already been here has mentioned that the pub is so much brighter and lighter. It’s lovely to hear such great feedback from customers.”
