A long-standing pub in Totley, the Cross Scythes is reopening its doors on Monday 12 June after having £450,000 invested by Stonegate Group.

The Cross Scythes has been a part of the local community since 1818 and is now the perfect destination for food and drink with its new look and offering.

Inside, the Cross Scythes has been revitalised, showcasing a new modernised look with new carpet, lighting, and bric-a-brac. Whilst there have been significant changes to the pub, it still keeps its character and charm, which is well-loved by the locals of Totley.

It is not just the interior that has seen a change, the outside area has also been revamped ready for the summer months. The Cross Scythes is the perfect location for a drink in the sun with friends, family, and your furry friends, as there are new seating areas and a pergola. You can also continue your drinks into the evening as the garden space has new festoon lighting so you can enjoy those upcoming balmy summer evenings under twinkling lights.

The pub’s drinks menu has been re-invented, to provide guests with more options and to feature new local and national drinks brands. Highlights of the drinks menu include cask ales, cocktails, wines and spirits. With so much choice, you are sure to find your favourite tipple.

To pair with the extensive drinks menu is the Cross Scythes new food menu. With pub classics such as fish and chips to more luxurious afternoon teas and champagne brunches, there are so many dishes for you to try. Of course, the pub’s food menu would not be complete without a Sunday roast! Every Sunday, you can enjoy a delicious roast dinner with meat and vegetarian options alongside bottomless roast potatoes, Yorkshire puddings and lashings of gravy. So why not pop down and enjoy some mouth-watering food.

At the helm of the Cross Scythes, and excited to welcome everyone back for food, drinks and some fun is General Manager Joe Woollard. Joe has been in the pub industry since the age of 16, working his way up to General Manager roles from a pot washer. Originally from Leeds, Joe has lived in Sheffield for 15 years, with his wife Kathie who will also be at the pub, and their two kids and beagle puppy.

Joe commented: “The Cross Sycthes is a brilliant pub and dining venue, and I am so pleased to be running it. The team and I are so happy to be near opening the doors and showing off our new look as the investment has truly transformed the venue, and this new chapter is so exciting.”

As well as coming to the pub for food and drinks, you can also stay in one of its four rooms, which have all been given a makeover. This is a perfect location if you are looking to visit the Peak District National Park, Blacka Moor Nature Reserve and the Longshaw Estate National Trust, which are all close by.

Fun is a big part of the agenda at the Cross Scythes, as there will now be weekly entertainment that everyone can participate in! Each week there will be Rock and Roll Bingo, Games Nights, Quiz Nights and Live Music, so there will be no shortage of entertainment.

Joe added: “There will be lots going on at the pub, which we want everyone to be a part of! From our weekly entertainment to fundraising activities for local and national causes such as our current charity, Motor Neurone Disease Association, there are many ways Totley can come together as a community and have a great time.

“We hope to see as many of you as possible on open day and cannot wait to celebrate our renovation with you all at our upcoming launch party weekend!”

You can join Joe and the team on Saturday 17 June and Sunday 18 June for a weekend of celebrations and entertainment. On Saturday, there will be live music from 7pm, so you can enjoy music, food and drink. Sunday will be a funday as there will be a bouncy castle for the kids to play on from 12pm – 6pm, and Magic Steve the magician will be in attendance to perform some tricks from 2pm – 4pm, and whilst the kids are having fun you can enjoy a delicious roast dinner and drinks.
