A classic pub with a rich history is gearing up for a bright future after a design revamp and menu overhaul.

The Blackbirds has been operating as a pub in its prime spot next to Hertford Castle for more than 300 years. Now, after a three week closure for a £350,000 refurbishment project, the pub will soon be back in business.

Work includes a complete refurbishment inside and out with new lighting, signage, flooring, furniture, design and decorations.

The doors are set to re-open on Thursday 6 July, with customers able to enjoy celebrations over the grand launch weekend.

They’ll also be able to tuck into a great new menu with the pub opening for breakfast for the first time and introducing Sunday roasts. The investment has created new jobs for three chefs along with more positions for bar and floor staff.

General Manager Elaine Dell has been at the Blackbirds since November and is looking forward to welcoming customers back.

Elaine said: “We are thrilled with the new refreshed look of The Blackbirds. This pub is such a beautiful iconic site in the heart of an amazing area, and we wanted to make sure the new décor complimented this.

“On top of the new look, we are also serving a great new drinks range, a fantastic new food menu and I’m excited to announce that Sunday roasts are back on the menu, which we are delighted with.

“We can’t wait to throw open the door again to the community and we look forward to welcoming old and new faces back in.”

The family-friendly pub has something for everyone. New screens and booths have been introduced to make watching live sports at The Blackbirds better than ever. The pub has Sky Sport and BT Sports and screens all major events including Premier League football and boxing.

The venue stays open late on the weekends with DJs performing at the pub. There are also quiz nights and other events running throughout the week.

The Blackbirds is part of the multiple award-winning Stonegate Group, and the investment by them will enable the Blackbird team to deliver the best in hospitality.
