Local community hub, The White Horse in Rainham, recently held their much-anticipated annual football themed charity fundraiser day, with all raised funds going to ‘My Shining Star’, a charity who provide support for children with cancer. The pub raised a huge £4,200 overall, with the help of all who participated in the local area.
The local pub has been running the annual charity football event since 2021 and is dedicated to continue raising funds for the incredible cause which is at the heart of the community. Cumulatively, the operators have raised over £10,000 for ‘My Shining Star’ over the years, with the support of the local community in the Rainham area, who have been helping every step of the way!
For the event, Nicola Ramsell, Operator of The White Horse and the pub team welcomed customers to take part in a Players vs Punters football match at The Howard School, where they went head-to-head against the pub team. After an exciting match, guests at the event ventured back to the pub for a BBQ and raffle. One of the big prizes up for grabs was a signed Arsenal shirt, boots and gloves from former Arsenal player Bernd Leno, who works closely with the charity.
To follow, and round off a fantastic day of fundraising, an evening of entertainment commenced with karaoke, music from a DJ and a fun-filled pool tournament. All attending guests were also able to meet the incredible team from ‘My Shining Star’ to hear first-hand how the vital funds that have been raised will support the charity in their work to make a difference to the lives of those suffering with cancer.
Nicola commented: “The fundraising day was fantastic, and the atmosphere created by all that attended was incredible. The team and I enjoyed having fun with the local community raising money for such a great cause, and the weather also pulled through for a glorious day! It is great to be a hub for the community and we are very grateful for the support we have received, the amount raised has completely exceeded our expectations.”
The total funds raised have been donated to ‘My Shining Star’, a charity based locally to The White Horse. The charity supports children and their families through childhood cancer and helps families through financial hardship, sibling support and bereavement due to cancer.
Nicola and The White Horse team are not stopping there, and are already planning future charity fundraisers, including a sports day in September, so check out their website to keep up to date on their future events.
