Popular community hub The Village Inn in Arrochar, has taken the spotlight in an episode of the critically acclaimed Netflix series “Black Mirror.” The inclusion of The Village Inn in the popular show not only showcases the significance of local pubs within communities but also emphasises their cultural impact, by appearing on our screens, day in day out.

Situated in a rural location, on the shores of Loch Long, the pub is a transformed 1872 church manse. The venue is filled with history, and its appearance in Black Mirror will be added to the rich tapestry of the pub’s story.

The ‘Loch Henry’ episode of Black Mirror explores the story of a young couple, travelling to a local, secluded town to work on a nature documentary, who happen to uncover some dark secrets along the way. The inclusion of the pub as a central hub within the episode highlights the importance of social spaces and how they provide a place to meet for local communities. The show recognises The Village Inn’s character and charm throughout, and the ability to captivate audiences, whether you’re watching the episode from home, or popping in for a pint!

During the filming process, the pub was transformed by the crew who built an extension of the Village Inn’s bar and a fake wall which covered the reception area, decking them out with stuffed animal décor. To take the pub back to the 80s, lots of the pub’s older-style bar furniture was used for the main scene, and the stairs actor John Hannah stumbles down is the pub’s staircase which leads to the hotel rooms.

The Village Inn prides itself on being a warm welcoming environment for everyone, including families, four-legged friends, tourists, and locals. It is a traditional pub, deeply supported by the local community, and its offering provides 14 rooms to stay in, a large beer garden which overlooks the Loch, delicious food and drinks and great, friendly service. And with its recent feature in Black Mirror, in the ‘Loch Henry’ episode, The Village Inn exemplifies the vital and intrinsic role local pubs play in our daily lives, both offline and on-screen.

James Kelly, General Manager at The Village Inn, said “We are thrilled to have The Village Inn featured in Black Mirror as it really shows the importance of pubs in our communities. By appearing on one of the most popular shows at the moment, we hope to highlight the cultural significance of pubs and their ability to bring people together, both in reality and on-screen.”

The exciting inclusion of The Village Inn in Black Mirror adds to the pub’s commitment to excellence, community engagement, and innovation has ensured it is a community favourite.
