MP for Birmingham, Selly Oak, Steve McCabe recently had the pleasure of visiting Grant Arms in Kings Norton, following a substantial £242,000 Investment from award winning Craft Union Pub Company, which saw the venue transform into a much-loved community space.
On hand to give Steve a warm welcome were Operators Brian and Wendy Jones. Brian and Wendy took Steve on an extensive tour of the pub, to show him the renovations that have taken place throughout. These uplifting changes included a refresh to the bar seating area to make for a more comfortable experience and a new darts board to entertain eager sports fans, along with 11 HD TV’S throughout so guests never have to miss a game.
As well as giving Steve a tour of the new-look space, Wendy and Brian also explained some of the history behind the pub, having been Operators there for over 8 years. The pair explained the new Craft Union wet-led model to Steve who was interested to learn how it differed from the way the pub had been run previously.
Grant Arms is a much-loved local pub, having been a staple in the community since 1930. Brian and Wendy have built a close network of locals who love the pub and Steve was able to chat to some of them and find out what they enjoy most about the venue, which prides itself on its community focus.
After chatting with locals and learning all about the pub, Steve was able to get behind the bar and try his hand at pouring a pint under the helpful guide of the pub team!
Before Steve left, Wendy and Brian were able to speak with him about challenges that the pub faces on a local level, along with the pubs upcoming plans for charity fundraisers and community events where Steve generously offered his help with promotion for these across his social media.
“It was a pleasure meeting Steve and chatting with him.” Brian said, “He was really interested in the investment and how it’s helped not only the pub but also the community. We were able to give him some history surrounding the pub which he enjoyed learning about. The locals also loved being able to speak with him and we look forward to him returning soon.”
