The Windmill Inn, a popular local pub in Derby, has recently held its second charity toy drive, raising and donating toys and emergency food parcels to local charity, Audrey’s Charity.
General Manager of The Windmill Inn, Ben Sedgewick-Lokes and team leaders Carrie Murphy and Yvonne Brown, organised and hosted a charity raffle this month, for all the local community to get involved with. The money raised went towards the team purchasing toys and food, spreading the Christmas magic to local families in need, with the help of Audrey’s Charity.
The trio were able to purchase 150 presents and create several emergency food parcels –exceeding last year’s total of 52 presents and 8 food packages. The pub team involved the local community by selling raffle tickets to win hampers filled with goodies alongside a separate raffle, where the lucky winner received £800. The Windmill Inn were able to raise £350 with the help of the generous community which enabled them to purchase gifts for local children.
The toy drive was in partnership with Audrey’s Charity, a charity close to all the teams’ hearts, as it is based within Derby. Audrey’s Charity donates food, clothes and electrical goods to people dealing with financial hardship, homelessness and those who have fled domestic abuse.
General Manager Ben said: “It has been extremely heart-warming to see the local community come together to support our toy drive for Audrey’s Charity. We hope that the presents bring some festive cheer to all the families in Derby, and that the parents can make some wonderful memories for their children. We proudly work with Audrey’s Charity throughout the year and are in our second year of toy donations for them. I want to encourage others to also donate to such a fantastic cause if they are able to do so.”
The Windmill Inn’s festivities do not stop there, as the team are hosting a New Year’s Eve party on 31st December. There will be live music from a local singer and there are more exciting plans to be revealed, so guests can expect an evening of fun. The event is ticketed and includes a drink in the ticket purchase so check out their or pop into the pub for more information.
