The Garden House, a community-focused pub on Pembroke Road in Norwich, has announced its annual Warm Spaces campaign to support those less fortunate within the community.

The pub’s fantastic efforts, along with support from the local community, are part of Craft Union’s ‘Make it a Million’ campaign. The aim of the campaign is to raise £1 million for local community causes through Craft Union’s network of over 600 pubs nationwide, with more than £600,000 already raised.

The goal of the Warm Spaces campaign is to provide warmth and essentials to those in the community who don’t have access to heating or other essentials such as food and drink.

Open from 11am every day, those struggling are invited to come down to The Garden House and make the most of the pub’s central heating as the winter months grow colder, while free teas and coffees will also be provided.

To further help the community effort, The Cathedral School will be generously donating food items to the Warm Spaces campaign, while money raised within the pub has been put towards buying items such as pot noodles and soups for those in need.

Last year, the pub saw a rise in visitors with this year’s winter expected to surpass last year’s total, with more people urgently relying on the pub’s warm space as a means to help survive the colder months.

The Garden House would also like to reach out to ask members of the Norwich community to donate hot water bottles due to a current shortage of supply so when those less fortunate leave The Garden House, they will have an item to help keep them warm during the frosty months ahead.

The community pub consistently supports charities in the area with regular food donations to The Salvation Army and hosting community events to raise funds for a variety of local causes.

Operated by Jonathon Childs, The Garden House has become a cornerstone of the local community, providing not only a place for social gatherings but also a source of significant support for its community.

Jonathon said: “To see the community come together to support our Warm Spaces initiative is heartwarming and a prime example of what makes our community so special.

“The Warm Spaces cause is very close to my heart as I see how people struggle during the tough winter months and with bills skyrocketing, I want our pub to be able to support people in the community in any way we can.

“Thanks to the generosity of The Cathedral School and donations from locals alongside our own staff, we have been able to donate large amounts of food, teas and coffees to people who are struggling and make a huge difference to people’s lives.

“Sadly, we are currently running low on hot water bottles so we would hugely appreciate any hot water bottles people can donate as these items can really help make a difference.”

Located in the heart of the Norwich community, the popular pub plans to build on this campaign with continued fundraising events designed to engage and entertain the community, all while supporting vital local causes as part of Craft Union’s mission to raise £1 million for charity.
