The Swan, a community pub in Birmingham, is celebrating after raising £5,140 for the Birmingham Hospice through recent fundraising events over the past six weeks.
The pub has raised the money through a whole host of fundraisers, such as hamper raffles, book and toy drives, clothes collections and much more, with £580 being raised from book sales and the hamper raffle alone.
Throughout January, staff at The Swan are embracing sobriety to raise further funds for the hospice, with collection buckets on the bar steadily seeing donations pour in.
This monumental fundraising effort could not have been achieved without the generosity of the Erdington community – many pub regulars have personal connections to Birmingham Hospice and were eager to put their hand in their pocket for a great cause. The total of £5,140 is anticipated to go a long way in supporting those less fortunate in the Erdington area.
For 110 years, the Birmingham Hospice (previously the John Taylor Hospice) has offered personalised support at home and expert 24-hour care. Their specialist services include physiotherapy, occupational therapy, pharmacy, therapeutic programmes, complementary therapies and counselling.
Many people in the area have been touched by the Birmingham Hospice, and the team at The Swan understand just how important this cause is to the local community. Determined to make a difference, the pub set out to raise as much money as possible for a cause that holds deep meaning in the community.
Operator Wayne Hinton said: “To see the community come together to support such an important charity was a heartwarming and prime example of what makes the Erdington community so brilliant.
“The hospice is very close to all of us in the area and I’d like to personally thank every single person who has been generous enough to give money to a fantastic cause.
“A huge thanks must also go to our own staff who have not been afraid to get stuck in, raising a huge £5,140, and we’re not going to stop there! We have plenty more fundraising efforts to come in the coming months so watch this space!”
The pub’s fantastic efforts are part of Craft Union’s ‘Make it a Million’ campaign. The aim of the campaign is to raise £1 million for local causes through Craft Union’s network of over 600 pubs nationwide, with the pub company edging closer to the 1-million-pound mark.
Located on 65 High Street, the popular pub plans to build on its success with continued fundraising events designed to engage and entertain the community, all while supporting vital causes as part of Craft Union’s mission to raise £1 million.
