The Bay Horse pub in Euxton might be closing for a short time to undergo refurbishment but landlord Peter Hufton isn’t resting on his laurels, instead, literally climbing mountains for charity.

The pub dating back to the middle ages, claims to be at the centre of the community–both because of its historic placement on the main intersection of the old packhorse tracks and because of its lean towards traditional pub values–real ale, value pub grub, sports, games and of course great entertainment.

Add to that a whopping £3,000 already raised for local charities St Catherine’s Hospice and the Rose Mere Foundation this year alone, and it’s a claim many would deem worthy.

Peter’s latest conquest whilst workmen are redecorating and extending the pub’s capacity into an all-year round heated pub garden, will be to climb Snowdon in aid of mental health charity MIND in the hope of adding another £1,000 to the running total before the pub reopens on 21st September with a celebratory VIP night.

“I’m always up for a challenge and thoughtI could takeadvantage of the two week closure by raising money for charity,” said Peter.“The pub closes on the 11th September andI’ll be taking on the walk on the 14th September which should give me just enough time to recover for the opening night.”

The opening will be a celebration not only of Peter’s success, but the refurbishment of the busy pub staying on top of its customers needs, adding the likes of Naylors, Rhythmn and Lancaster as local beers, fiveTVs toenhance the Sky and BT Sports viewingfacilities plus table service during big games so there’s never a score missed.

Mayor, Councillor Mark Perks will launch the £100,000 investment and may even take part in the legendary quiz on the opening night, Thursday 21st September whilst tasters of the most popular pub dishes, cask, and new to the range, craft beer circulate showcasing the pub’s vibrant atmosphere.

There’s also a flash of theatre in the King’s feast menu with six man vs food dishes including the KINGS FEAST CHALLENGE BURGER, not for the faint-hearted: four 6oz beef burgers with cheese and bacon, a breaded chicken schnitzel, and pulled chicken and chorizo, served in a sesame-seed bun, with 10 onion rings, double chips, garlic bread and a smoky mayonnaise sauce! At £16.99 for the lot, Peter said ‘I expect there’ll be a few sharing that one but the first individual to finish it will definitely be in our hall of fame!”

Weekly entertainment includes; Monday club with pints from £2.25, Tuesday night quiz, Wednesday poker, Thursday smart phone quiz, Friday after work drinks, Saturday super sports and Sunday social roasts with all the trimmings – a reason to visit everyday of the week.
