The Swan, Thornbury has had a whole host of Christmas activities going on this festive season including live music nights and festive parties. To wrap up their festivities, they are hosting a private charitable Christmas dinner.

The Christmas period has been a busy time for The Swan, recently the customers and staff at the pub took part in a Christmas Carolling service, raising money for Thornbury Town Band. The service was held outside the pub and was a magical evening filled with carols and food and drinks.

The pub is always thinking about the community, and will be continuing their festive celebrations on Christmas Day, with around 20 people who would be on their own for Christmas, who can now enjoy a private lunch with Sandra and The Swan team.

The pub has also been hosting live music every weekend in the lead up to Christmas, and held a Christmas Party Night for regulars, with cheese and crackers and Secret Santa gifts. The Christmas activities began with an ‘Abba Afternoon Tea’. This was held at the end of November and featured an Abba karaoke sing-along, fancy dress and prosecco and cocktails with a traditional afternoon tea. Licensee, Sandra says: “It was a brilliant event attended by 20 to 80-year-olds and £5 from every £20 ticket sold went to help raise money for the local festive lights association.”

The pub has also hosted a festive celebration for regular customers of the Tuesday bingo group, with sherry, mince pies, Secret Santa, and a buffet. Sandra continued: “Many of the attendees were elderly and don’t have work Christmas-dos that many of us take for granted, so they really enjoy this.”

Sandra does a lot of work for the community and had carried this through to the festive season, where she is running initiatives to buy items to support local homeless people and those staying at domestic abuse refuges. Donations towards this are being supported by local groups. Sandra and her pub team have also been bringing the community together by hosting a ‘Souper Natter’ group on Monday mornings, which started this month. This group gives people in the local community, who might be in need of more connection with others, the opportunity to come to the pub for a chat over free tea and coffee.
