The Lion pub on Bedford Place has been very popular with the local community since reopening its doors after its six-figure investment, and recently had a visit from the Lord Mayor of Southampton. However, its most recent guest was Alan Whitehead MP.

The MP for Southampton, Test met with Operator Tess and the pub’s team to talk all about the pub’s investment, community engagement offering, training and employment opportunities.

Tess said: “It was great to have Alan visit us and talk to him about our recent investment. He really liked the pub’s new look, especially the changes made to the interior. We really enjoyed telling him about the new drinks and entertainment offering that was introduced too.”

The Lion has a great range of beers, ciders, wines and spirits, which pair with their live sports entertainment and weekly Karaoke Nights on Thursdays and Disco Nights on Fridays and Saturdays, with Friday nights being themed.

As well as finding out more about the Lion, Alan was very interested in hearing about Tess’s career within the industry. Tess and the team also informed Alan of how Craft Union Pub Company works with its employees to develop their skills and support them in their career development.

Tess added: “It was really nice that Alan was so interested in finding out about my career journey and asking about employment opportunities we have at the pub. As well as talking about me and the team, we were able to tell him all about our wonderful customers and what we do to support them.”

The Lion is a hub for the community of Southampton and welcomes all to relax and enjoy a good drink. Throughout the week the pub has lots going on which customers can get involved with and the pub also likes to support initiatives and charities, which allows everyone to come together.

Tess concluded: “Talking to Alan about our community work and the relationships we have with our customers was so nice and it was great he was able to see our customers enjoying themselves while he was visiting.

“The team and I had a great time meeting with Mr Whitehead and telling him about our wonderful business. We look forward to the next time he visits us.”
