A popular South Bramhall bar has reopened this week under a new name which pays tribute to Bramhall’s rich heritage and history.
The Nook and Broom bar on Bramhall Lane, formerly The Yardbird, promises to be high on people’s list of places to eat and drink out following a significant refurbishment.
The name change reflects Bramhall’s long history as it was recorded in the Domesday Book as Bramale, a name derived from the Old English words ‘Brom’, meaning broom which is indigenous to the area and ‘Halh’ meaning nook or secret place, probably by water – hence the new bar name, the Nook and Broom.
There has been a £400,000 refurbishment during the six weeks-long closure and highlights include the new booths which seat groups of six to eight people who want to enjoy all the atmosphere of the bar in their own space. Interest is high and booth bookings can be made in advance.
New additions to the food and drinks menus are lunch offers, brunch, bottomless brunch, two-for-one cocktails, craft beers and an extensive spirits list with local brewers and distillers featuring alongside national and international favourites. Specialities to look out for include hand-stretched sourdough pizzas as well as brilliant burgers and bar classics, plus a great choice of vegan and vegetarian dishes. There is also a Mix and Match Gin Lab tasting to experience.
There will be all the best live sports including football, F1, rugby, tennis and cricket, and live music acts and DJs which can all be enjoyed throughout the bar.
General Manager Kate Procter is looking forward to welcoming Nook and Broom customers in. She was in charge at the Directors Box in Manchester previously and has years of experience running successful bars. She said: “We are really excited to meet all the people of Bramhall and getting to know the local community groups and teams. While I may be new to Bramhall you will still see some familiar faces at the bar. The Nook and Broom is such a perfect bar for friends and families to meet up and share a great range of food and drinks. The booths are great as you have the benefit of your own space yet can still enjoy the buzz and atmosphere around. We are here for the everyday meet ups and the special occasions. It’s about being part of the community and the place where people get together and enjoy themselves. You can all be sure of a warm welcome at the Nook and Broom. Pop in to see just what a wonderful community bar you have here in Bramhall. It’s great! If Bramhall dates back to the Domesday Book, then the new Nook and Broom is the perfect place to make new memories and stories!”
To celebrate the reopening, there are further grand launch activities starting on Friday 20 May and over the weekend. Look out for a drinks tokens, food samples, golden envelopes with offers and prizes, a Doggy Disco brunch, or enjoy the action of the Spanish Grand Prix with friends and your favourite food and drinks. Be sure to keep an eye out for the brilliant Jubilee Bank Holiday weekend activities too.
