Beloved community pub, the Beau Geste in Ashton-Under-Lyne, has successfully raised £720 for Cancer Research during its recent fundraising event. The pub’s fantastic efforts are part of Craft Union’s wider campaign to hit £1 million in charity fundraising through its pubs nationwide.
The Beau Geste, operated by Wendy Gail Pickford, has a proud history of supporting Cancer Research. Last year, the pub held a charity event across a whole weekend, raising an impressive £1,400. This year’s event featured a variety of fun activities and was met with enthusiastic participation from local residents.
Throughout the day, patrons enjoyed a lively atmosphere with a range of activities, including a tombola stall that offered prizes such as wine, shot glasses, hair treatments, and perfume. The event also featured ‘Chase the Ace,’ football cards, and a football shirt raffle. A highlight of the day was a series of sponsored chest waxes, head shaves, and leg waxes, with brave customers stepping up to support the cause. DJ and karaoke sessions, led by MC Steve, kept the energy high, ensuring the event was as memorable as it was successful.
A delighted Wendy spoke of her appreciation for the incredible support from the community: “Cancer affects so many people, and it’s vital that we continue to support research into finding a cure. Our community always comes together for these events, and it really touches my heart to see the generosity and enthusiasm of everyone involved. We’re thrilled with the amount raised so far and look forward to our next event in August.”
In addition to the funds raised during this event, the Beau Geste has planned another exciting fundraising event for the August bank holiday weekend, which promises more games, raffles, a DJ, and even a drag show. Local businesses have generously donated raffle prizes, ensuring a variety of exciting prizes for those taking part.
‘Make it a Million’ is an initiative from the Craft Union pub group that started after it managed to raise an incredible £800,000 for UK charities in 2023. This year, they’re taking a giant step forward and aiming to raise a million pounds for charity across almost 600 pubs. The Beau Geste is a well-loved part of the Craft Union family, and its fantastic fundraising efforts throughout the year will go towards the ‘Make it a Million’ charity fundraising goal.
