Well-loved community hub, the Rising Sun in Bristol, has raised a phenomenal £10,000 across three events for various children’s focused charities in Bristol, including the Make a Wish Foundation, Tiny Tickers and Sands. The pub’s fantastic efforts are part of Craft Union’s wider campaign to hit £1 million in charity fundraising through its pubs nationwide.
Most recently, the pub banded together with nearby local, the Foresters Arms to raise much needed funds for the Make a Wish foundation through their Running for Rio event. The pubs collectively raised an awesome £2,400 for the cause in memory of Rio, a local child.
On the day, more than 200 people attended the event, with 30 sporty guests also taking on the challenge of running the 8km between the Foresters Arms to the Rising Sun to help raise funds for the charity.
The charity fun runners, who were sporting a creative array of costumes from Super Mario to Willy Wonka, Minnie Mouse and many more, began the challenge at 1pm at Foresters Arms and were well supported along the way until they made it to the Rising Sun. Upon gracing the finishing line, the runners were treated to a well-deserved buffet lunch and a £200 cash prize was bestowed on the runner with the best fancy dress.
Following the run, the Rising Sun put on an afternoon of entertainment including a performance from highly acclaimed and renowned entertainer Paul Foster, as well as a live auction raffle of Bristol City, Bristol Bears and Real Madrid football shirts which helped boost the fundraising total. The family fun day was complete with a bouncy castle, ice cream van and music bingo amongst other entertainment.
Operators of the Rising Sun, Aaron Sullivan-Bissett and Kodie Marshall were the lead organisers behind the event and commented: “Our event in collaboration with Foresters Arms was a huge success and it was fantastic to see so many members of our community down at the pub in support of the fundraising! It was really heartening to see everyone band together, cheer on the runners and have a joy-filled afternoon with all the entertainment. We must give a huge shout out to Jacob at Foresters Arms for launching the event runners from his pub and getting involved, uniting the community and local businesses is so important and it was an honour to host this event.”
The duo continued: “To date we’ve raised £10k for local charities and we aren’t stopping there! Keep an eye on our social pages for our next charity initiative, all are welcome.”
Both the Rising Sun and the Foresters Arms are well-loved Craft Union pubs, and their fantastic fundraising efforts will go towards Craft Union’s ‘Make it a Million’ charity fundraising goal.
