The Castle Grounds pub in Coventry is set to reopen today, Thursday 15th August, following a £109,000 makeover ahead of its launch party celebrations tomorrow.

The investment has transformed the site into a Craft Union venue, with new branding, refreshed decoration and interior additions such as a brand-new dart board to complement the existing pool table. The pub is also introducing a new range of draught products behind the bar, including favourites such as Peroni, Old Mout cider, and Amstel amongst others. In addition to the internal refresh, the transition of the site into a Craft Union venue has created ten more jobs at the much-loved pub.

Joining the Castle Grounds as the new operator of the pub is Simon Mitchell, who has worked in the hospitality industry for many years. He commented on the reopening: “I have been looking for an opportunity in Coventry for the past nine months and as soon as I saw Castle Grounds, I knew it was the perfect venue to take on. My partner and I are experienced in running pubs that have a focus on live sports, entertainment and a strong late-night offering and can’t wait to implement this at the Castle Grounds and make it a must-visit venue in Coventry. Craft Union pubs are all about community and we can’t wait to get to know our locals and start up some charity events and fundraisers for our community to get involved with. The next chapter of the Castle Grounds is very exciting, and I look forward to sharing it with you all!”

The Castle Grounds reopens with a fantastic new events agenda with something for everyone throughout the week. Starting the week off strong, guests can take part in the pub’s quiz every Monday night from 6pm and their darts league on Tuesdays from 8pm. Wednesdays are set to be student night with DJ set and discounted drinks and promotions for university students and the fun continues on Thursdays with the Castle Grounds’ open mic night for up-and-coming Coventry musicians. Heading into the weekend, guests can expect class DJ acts every Friday and Saturday night and a karaoke on Sundays to finish off a brilliant week of entertainment.

On Friday 16th August the pub starts its opening weekend celebrations by streaming the Coventry City match live on its many large HDTV screens. Castle Grounds will also be hosting a DJ on both Friday and Saturday evening and karaoke on Sunday to officially welcome guests back to the pub.

Castle Grounds is situated in a Victoria style venue that was first built in the 1720s for a silk merchant. In 1939 the building was occupied by the Miners Union Club and in the late 1990s the site was transformed into a pub for the first time, named Varsity. The pub took on its current title in 2016 and is now one of the city’s best loved destinations for unforgettable nightlife and sports viewing.
