Charity Race Night at The Chantry

Where: Chantry, 27-28 South Gate, Chichester PO19 1ES

Date: Thursday 2nd August 2018

The Chantry, on South Gate in Chichester, is hosting a Charity Race Night on Thursday 2nd August to support Cancerwise, a drop-in centre based in the town. The evening coincides with Ladies Day at the nearby Glorious Goodwood Festival.

The event will run been 7pm and 9pm and consist of six different pre-recorded races for customers to place bets on, with all money raised donated to Cancerwise. Then from 9pm resident DJ, Jamie O’Donnell, will take over the entertainment, allowing customers and race-goers to dance the night away.

There will be raffle tickets on sale throughout the night, for which Manager Chris Wood has spent the last few weeks collecting some exciting prizes donated by local businesses.

The event comes as part of Chris’s, participation in the ‘Accelerator Programme’, a training course run by managing operator, Stonegate Pub Company. The course, which run over four months, includes a practical component, where participants must organise and produce a fundraiser for a chosen charity.

The programme is designed to give employees the tools to bridge the gap between Deputy Manager and General Manager, through education and dynamic group learning. The course aims to build the participant’s confidence, encourage continued independent learning and help them to work together effectively as team.

Chris has been the Holding Manager of the Chantry since April this year and although originally intended as a temporary position, his keen managerial abilities and positive impact, will make his position permanent when he graduates. He is now one of only nine Accelerator participants who will progress straight into management positions, upon their graduation.

“I’ve loved every moment since starting at the Chantry,” said Chris. “It’s been such an amazing opportunity for me personally and I’ve really had the chance to spread my wings. The team and I have worked hard since I started to perfect the pub’s offer and our service, and it’s really reflected in the amount of positive feedback that’s now coming in from customers.

“I’m really looking forward to our Charity Race Night. Cancerwise is an important charity to Chichester, so it was a no brainer when I picked it. They provide a kind of support and comfort to people going through the hardest time in their lives that I think is invaluable.

“I’m hoping this event will be the start of a long and fruitful relationship between Cancerwise and the Chantry – we’d like to continue to support them with all our fundraising initiatives in the future.”

Chris has committed to raising at least £500 for charity, to cover the cost of three drop-in sessions run by Cancerwise.
