The Red Lion Pub & Restaurant, Freshwater and their Chef Sean Jeffers has been shortlisted as a finalist in the category of Best Pub Chef at the Great British Pub Awards 2022.
The Red Lion is a traditional country pub, surrounded by the tranquillity of the Isle of Wight countryside. The pub offers a chilled and relaxing space to enjoy a refreshing drink and a bite to eat, with friends, family, and those in the local community. There is a range of drinks available including traditional ales, local beers, and fine wines. All the drinks on offer are great paired with the delicious food on the menu.
The pub source the very best local fish, meat and even have their own vegetable garden. These fresh ingredients are used to make mouth-watering and flavoursome dishes using the best of all the ingredients available. The pub offers a lunch menu which is served between 12-2:30 and a finer a la carte menu in the evening.
Sean is a huge part of the kitchen and is behind producing these high-quality, flavoursome dishes alongside the other amazing team members in the kitchen. His passion for cooking came from a school food technology lesson, and he knew from there that he wanted to pursue a career in this field. He has worked in different roles as a chef in various environments but is now Head Chef at The Red Lion and thoroughly enjoys it. Sean’s favourite thing about being a chef and The Red Lion is that the pub has its own vegetable and herb garden, which is like a chef’s playground.
Sean Jeffers, Chef at The Red Lion said: “I am privileged to be shortlisted for such an award alongside the wonderful team at The Red Lion. It is great to have my work recognised and have so much support from everyone at the pub and all the customers who thoroughly enjoy the food. The Red Lion is a local pub, and we showcase this through our food and drink offerings, sourcing everything from the Isle of Wight area.
“The Great British Pub Awards is such a big event for the pub industry, and it is an achievement in itself being nominated within these prestigious awards.”
The awards recognise pubs, and their teams across the country for their amazing efforts and hard work undertaken to makes Britain’s pubs great for their communities. Two rounds of judging have already taken place to choose the finalists, and further judging will commence over the summer with pub visits taking place.
