Much-loved local pub, St Fagans Castle in Penarth has raised an incredible £2,700 for two important causes, Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA) and Marie Curie Penarth through its fantastic fundraising efforts so far this year.

To date, just over £2,100 of the total has been raised for Marie Curie in Penarth, a palliative care hospice that helps make the lives of patients and their families more comfortable. One of St Fagans Castle’s largest fundraisers was their recent Big Sporty Auction that saw the pub host a raffle as well as auction off signed shirts and sporting memorabilia from various Welsh rugby teams, Swansea City Football Club, as well as local legend, Eddie Avoth, the former British and Commonwealth Light Heavyweight Boxing Champion.

Eddie joined the pub in person to act as compere on the night and personally gave away a signed photo of him in his champion belt to help raise funds for the important cause as well as giving a signed copy of his certificate from the boxing hall of fame.

The pub is committed to fundraising for the causes and hosts weekly fundraisers for MNDA through its weekly Thursday charity quiz and meat raffle. Their highly popular meat raffle allows guests to buy tickets and one lucky person walks away with a hamper worth £50, that is full of high quality, locally farmed meat from local butcher, Lushys. So far, they’ve raised almost £600 for MNDA through these weekly fundraisers and the popularity of these weekly events shows no signs of slowing down.

Debbie and Huw Jones are at the helm of the much-loved community pub and commented: “We are so proud of our pub family for helping us raise over £2,700 for charity. Both MNDA and Marie Curie are causes that are incredibly close to our hearts as we have both lost loved ones to Motor Neurone Disease and cancer. Our wonderful Bar Manager’s grandmother was also treated in Marie Curie so here at St Fagans, we know first hand how important these charities are and the work that they do for our community. We are consistently bowled over by how our locals and the community support our charity initiatives every week, we really couldn’t do it without them!”

Huw and Debbie are dedicated to the pub’s fundraising and over the course of the year, they have spearheaded numerous initiatives from Easter egg collections for a local food bank to an ongoing static tin collection on the bar, they’re always coming up with new ways to engage the community.

St Fagans is located in the heart of Penarth and is a true community hub. As a Craft Union venue, their fundraising efforts are part of the group’s wider “Make it a Million” campaign that aims to raise £1 million across all Craft Union sites this year. Community is at the centre of all that Craft Union is and the strength of this message is evident through the brilliant charity efforts at St Fagans Castle.Much-loved local pub, St Fagans Castle in Penarth has raised an incredible £2,700 for two important causes, Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA) and Marie Curie Penarth through its fantastic fundraising efforts so far this year.
