The Lowther pub, in Newcastle, was given a complete makeover at the beginning of the year, after a six-figure investment from the award-winning Craft Union Pub Company, and since reopening has welcomed lots of members of the local community. More recently, the pub team hosted Chi Onwurah, MP for Newcastle upon Tyne Central, who paid a visit to the local pub.

On hand to warmly welcome the local MP was Operator Nick and the pub team who were able to give Chi a grand tour of the new look pub and talk about a range of topics.

On the tour, Nick was able to show Chi all of the new additions to the pub including the new design throughout, the revamped bar, newly installed pool table and illuminated darts board and eight HD TV screens all with Sky Sports and BT Sports.

During the tour, Nick was able to mention all of the exciting entertainment the pub offers to bring the local community together, especially its elevated live sports offering. As well as entertainment, Nick explained how he and the team make the space a friendly environment for all guests to come and relax and have fun.

Chi was interested to hear about the opportunities available for team members to progress within their careers in the hospitality sector and how the majority of the staff are local to the pub.

Before heading off, Chi was able to get behind the bar and pull a pint of John Smiths, with the pub team on hand to pass on their skills.

Chi Onwurah MP said: “Local pubs are an essential part of our national history & culture.

“I am pleased to have visited the Lowther in Newcastle after its £300,000 investment by owners Craft Union Pub Company, which has transformed the venue.

“It now provides a social hub for the area & supports local jobs & career progression; it is great to see the Lowther playing a key role in the community.”

Nick commented: “We thoroughly enjoyed having Chi visit us at the Lowther and learn all about our wonderful community pub. It was great to tell her about the investment and hear how much she liked the venue after its transformation. She was very interested to learn about the team and the ways we can progress in our careers. The visit was very positive and all of us at the Lowther look forward to the next time she visits.”
