Newquay’s most famous local, will be closing its doors, but not for long!

Manager of The Red Lion, Rachael Box, is thrilled to announce a £250,000 makeover with renovations starting on February 29th and reopening to loyal and new customers 22nd March.

Owners Stonegate Pub Company has also announced the creation of five new jobs, including full-time chef.

Since buying the pub in November 2015, Stonegate bosses fell in love with the character of the Red Lion. The outside had been freshly painted, but new owners agreed that locals deserved more, deciding to invest the huge sum into restoring the pub and facilities, whilst carefully preserving the pub’s roots and traditions.

Not giving everything away, Rachael said: “The pub is being fully refurbished throughout with a mix of contemporary and traditional design – we will be fully recognisable for all our original charm and personality. Local bands, infused gins, the biggest range of cask ales in the area, Cornish cider, local fish dishes – it’s all staying, we’re just going to look and feel much nicer”

The renovations will also add thirty new covers for diners; a whole new kitchen to improve food service; and heating and lighting to the garden to bring a relaxed atmosphere and vibe to this traditional hot spot.

Rachael, in her fourth year at the pub, is encouraging customers to ‘save the date’ to be first to experience the renovation on 22nd March.
