A popular Great Yarmouth pub has reopened after a major overhaul to offer the best of hospitality, live sport and entertainment to the community.
The Albion, part of the award-winning Craft Union Pub Company and who were named the Best Community Operator at the 2022 Publican Awards, closed for a complete refurbishment worth £246,000. The pub is now back with a brand-new look and offer which is already receiving plaudits from locals.
There is a familiar face at the helm of the pub, with Richard Garritley managing it alongside his wife Natalie. He previously worked as a DJ at the pub – and his daughter Mackenzie is following in her father’s footsteps by taking to the decks. Meanwhile the couple’s other daughter Keelie works behind the bar.
Richard said: “It is a real family affair and the customers like that. We have had so many people coming in for the first time in years. They are amazed at how modern it is now and is one of the best looking pubs in Yarmouth without a doubt.”
Live sport is a focal point of life at The Albion. New TV screens and audio visual equipment have been introduced throughout and the pub shows live Sky Sports and BT Sport, as well as major events such as the FIFA World Cup and pay per view boxing.
Customers and the pub’s pool team can also enjoy playing on a new pool table, which stands proudly alongside new dart boards and games machines.
A range of events are also on the menu including a poker league, karaoke, live music, a hypnotist and a clairvoyant night. Richard and the team are also busy raising funds for a defibrillator that will be attached to the pub wall.
Richard continued: “We are all about supporting the community and the community supports us. This is a welcoming, diverse, warm, friendly and safe environment. Everyone is welcome to come and relax and enjoy themselves. We are family and dog friendly too.”
