The much-loved Earl of Chatham pub in Woolwich is welcoming customers in again just as it has for hundreds of years following a short closure for a £300,000 refurbishment.
The historic pub, which dates back to the 1840s, is named after William Pitt the Younger, the second Earl of Chatham and also the youngest British prime minister. The pub’s re-opening has coincided with the launch of the new Elizabeth Line boosting transport links in and around the area.
A highlight of these latest works is unrivalled sports viewing throughout with high-quality, big screens showing Sky Sports and BT Sport. A new darts surround and pool table offer in-house sports too. New booth seating means customers can have all the pub atmosphere in their own private space while further new soft furnishings and carpeting add to the overall comfort in the pub.
And there’s a new face at the bar to welcome customers, Jamie Thomas who has been running pubs for over 20 years and is also a renowned pool player in tournament circles.
Jamie said: “This is such an historic pub and it has served Woolwich for hundreds of years. I am excited to be part of its next chapter. This latest refurb means it is even more inviting and people want to stay for longer! It’s all about making your visit here comfy and relaxing. You can come in to watch a match or just have a drink and a chat, that’s the beauty of this pub.”
He added: “This is a typical traditional local pub and it’s great meeting the regulars and new faces. I like a game of pool myself so hope I’ll have a chance to spend some time at the pool table as well! There aren’t many things better than pool and a pint with friends!”
The pub is part of the award-winning Craft Union Pub Company, who were named the Best Community Operator at the 2022 Publican Awards. It invested over £306,000 in The Earl of Chatham so it can continue its long-standing service to the Woolwich neighbourhood.
The drinks menu has been extended so customers can enjoy a pint of ale, chilled lager, cool cocktail or explore different wines and spirits. With the Craft Union Order & Pay app, customers can simply order their drinks from their seat and their drinks will be delivered to their table or booth – it’s hassle-free, secure and super easy!
Jamie added: “We have something for everyone whatever the day, night or occasion to enjoy with friends, family and neighbours. There is a great atmosphere here, we have a brilliant range of drinks, great service, sports and entertainment and it’s all really good value. Come in and see us!”
